We have a Cisco Pix 515 firewall that we need to learn more about. I'm wondering about training for this device - does anyone know of a good, comprehensive course that would help a person learn about the Pix and how to manage/monitor it? I am in Vermont but travel is not out of the question. Any information will be greatly appreciated!

CCNA or CCNA courses do a great job - do the 1 or 2 week course if you are technical enough.

Cisco is basically a command line interface OS and hence if you can get a working script from a configured 515 you can modify it for your needs and learn what each line does.

Listen, Cisco PIX is different than Cisco routers and switches.
If you have the money for training, go through GlobalKnowledge. I went through their Cisco PIX training course, and it was the best experience.

HI!

Cisco has a course called CSPFA for PIX training.
You must have CCNA before to take it.

The course (like any other course) is not enough without hands-on practice , product manuals and so, but it is a good way for getting the basic skills and learning about the product features, and getting some hands-on training if you don't have spare PIXes to study on.

You may also contact you dealer or local CISCO office - in some places you can ask for some "lab time" in their lab.

I'm not saying my suggestion is thorough, but at a pinch it can get you a bit of the way along the line.

Proper tailored courses are the only way to do it "properly".
