Hi everyone,

Lets say a friend of mine lives in a 3rd word country (which is not an enemy of the us). He would love to get a little hands on with cisco equipment in preparation for his CCNA. The problem is as you might imagine there aren't much cisco stuff floating around over there. What if I decide to donate old stuff like 2500 routers and export them over there. Would someone at cisco be displeased about that?

bongonetworker,

I know lots of people in other parts of the world that buy Cisco equipment on Ebay, not sure why you "friend" can't just do that.

I also think it depends on the IOS - not the hardware ......

As for your question, I think because of the security and legal issues it is best directed to Cisco and not a public forum. Call your local Cisco sales office and start with them, they should be able to explain the provisions Cisco has for donating equipment to what Cisco refers to as the "Have Nots".

Having been to several Cisco conventions, Cisco is big in donating equipment to the 3rd world so they might even handle it for you or have an office that deals with that!!

Hope this helps!

CiscoGuy,

You are right, due to the fact that people purchase cisco stuff on ebay internationally it wouldn't be a problem to ship cisco stuff internationally as well.(maybe that the sellers complete a registration with cisco)

The reason I asked is that I know of a family that donate pc equipment and arrange the shipping. So it might be a good idea if the few routers can tag along. But the legality of it is my concern.

Thanks for advice about contacting cisco. I will try just that.

bongonetworker,

That is why I suggested you call Cisco - because if and when the FBI shows at your door for shipping national secrets (encription technology) it won't matter what you were told in here :)

Great idea rather than in another landfill !!!!!
