I installed cisco communicator but the following error message pops up when I log in 'CTI control of phone is not allowed for this user'

I've added the standard CTI enabled group to my profile and checked Allow Control of Device from CTI.

Am I missing something?

The version of communicator is 8.5.1.177660-6.1.34
Client Services Framework 8.5(2)-4.2.13

Call manager version is 8.5.xxxx

It does work for other people so there is something in my profile.

Are you talking about personal communicator and not ip communicator right?
Is the phone you are trying to control assigned to your user profile? What type of phone is it?
After you added cti control did you log out of CUPC and log in again?

To answer your first question it's Cisco Unified Personal Communicator.

2nd question: the phone is a Cisco 7942 and yes I am trying to

3rd question: yes

have you assigned desk phone control to the user in the presence server then? That's probably the issue.
