Cisco Catalyst 4006 configuration

Hi. I know some stuff about Cisco routers from the CCNA classes, but not much on switches.

For one, I do not exactly understand the interfaces and what their purpose is. sc0, sd10, me1

I bet sc0 is for the supervisor module, but lost on sd10 and me1. The I am not sure if I need the default route set, that seems more like a router then a switch.

Sc0 is the management interface for the switch and the interface you put the management address on , "set int sc0 ip address <mask> . SD 10 , don't know . Here is some ME1 info

PS you do need to set the default route , same as default gateway if you want to manage the switch from anywhere other than the switches management subnet.

The CCNA classes do not teach anything on CatOS, and I do not know when the last time they did...however, the concepts are all the same.

This is just my opinion so take with a grain of salt but, I've noticed a lot of used 4006 switches for sale on the Internet lately. Is this a production switch or is it a part of a study lab?

Either way you may want to consider bumping up the supervisor to a version that supports IOS. WS-4013+ or WS-4014 support IOS and work well for lab work. Ebay is a good source.
