I'm having some difficulty with an overhead paging system that uses an amplifier. I have an ATA connected to the switch and a phone line from the ATA to the overhead paging system. The Overhead paging system is set to Station CO. (But has options for Dry Loop, Station CO., Ground Start, and Loop Start) and it connects up to the amplifier. The amplifier is set to Dry Loop (but has options for Dry Loop 600 Ohm, Dry Loop HI Z, Ground Start, and Loop Start). The extenion to the ATA is 7777. When We call 7777 from a Cisco phone, we hear the amplifier pickup and wait for us to select a zone. We currently have 2 zones which are selected by dialing 01 or 02. After we hit 01 or 02 we hear some beep and then we can page. The problem is that sometimes we hear the beep, press in 01 or 02 and then get cut off from the call. I would say the success rate is 4 out of 10 times. How do I resolve this issue? Do I select different options? I don't know the difference between dry loop, loop start, ground loop, station co., etc etc..

FXO has never been a good solution..

we ended up using an FXS port, but you need a UPAM module that will accept a station port connection..

We use an FXS or ATA and a Valcom paging adapter. Seems to work very well. I've heard of using an IP phone with the line number set to auto-answer, plugging a cord into the handset jack, taking the earpiece leads out of the cord and connecting to a paging adapter. I've heard this eliminates the delay experienced by the paging person vs. actual voice heard. Never tried it myself but the person that told me swears by it.

Never said it was a good way,:) I'm not sure it would even work. I heard they did it to eliminate the delay. I'd rather do things the right way and leave the hacking to hackers.
