Hi

We have about 8 of these switches at work and I'm having problems with the length of time it takes end user devices to join the network. I've tried enabling portfast on specific ports and this does increase the time a bit, but I've still got to wait 30-60 seconds at the logon screen for the network to become available.

Has anyone else seen this on these switches?

Model: WS-C2948G-GE-TX
CatOS: cat4000-k9.8-4-11-GLX.bin

Thanks

Cammy

And maybe a topology diagram? Are you sure its a networking issue and not an OS issue (DNS?).
These are old CatOS boxes so I'd need to blow the dust of some braincells to help...

No havent seen that ever , we still have about 70 cat 4006's on the network . Use the set port host command on any user port , activates portfast and shuts off any etherchannel or trunking negotiation. As long as they portfast on then as soon as the nic layer 1 comes active the port should go into forwarding mode. You have something else going there , it should not take very long to get on . First verify portfast is indeed turned on after the set port host command. By joining network what do mean ? They should be able to pull an address in a very short period of time , if they are trying to talk to a server then something else may be going on . May have to put a sniffer on and watch a bootup sequence.

Sorry about my lack of response to this post. I'll get back asap.
