Has anyone ever tied an S8700 CM 2.0 to a CISCO AS5300 Universal Gateway? We are using the S8700 in conjunction with the AS5300 to provide PC dial in service to our LAN. I configured a TN464F as follows, ISDN-EXT/ESF/b8zs. Then a station as type DS1FD. The span will float but, when I call the assigned station it will ring but, no answer. Can someone point me in the right direction.

I've started over with the following setup...

I’m in need of some advice. My objective is to tie an S8700 to a CISCO AS5300 Gateway. It’s purpose is to allow employees off campus to connect to the Campus LAN (DIAL ACCESS). For on campus testing we are using x8901. In the AVAYA configuration below I can dial x8901 and terminates to a trunk group port. The call times out and I get reorder. I should get a BEEP and MODEM HANDSHAKE from the CISCO. I’ve never had an issue with building any type of T1. I’m just not sure if I’m routing x8901 correctly. Any advice would be appreciated. I’ve been hammering on this for 3 weeks now and I want to make sure that my end is at least 99% correct before I have to go to my network group to look at the CISCO setup.

Hi there, I was wondering if you found the solution to your problem. We are trying to do the same thing as you. We are replacing a Cisco AS5100 that has several external modems with a Cisco 3700 series router with digital modem ports which are accessed across a PRI trunk from our Avaya switch.

I'm on the network side of the house but I am familiar with the phone systems/switches. My telephone guys are fairly unfamiliar with the Avaya since our main switch-tech left. I was trying to figure out if you were able to get yours to work and if so what are your Avaya settings. Such as DSX settings, trunk group, signal group, and so forth.

He also says he doesnt know how to route/forward the calls to the trunk. It should be just one number for all the modems correct? I suppose that is what the vector directy numbers and call vector screens are for. Any help would be great.

Hey Carl,

I've been through numerous amounts of documents from CISCO to AVAYA and all interoperability docs that I could get my hands on. From all the information that I could compile, it appears that you need a CO-Class switch that can provide SS7.

We have everything working fine off of Bell South's 5ESS T1 but we would like to eliminate that and incorporate that into my switch to save a few dollars. I had everything hooked up, the span would float, the call would route to the span but, the CISCO would never answer. After a few months we decided that it wasn't worth wasting anymore time on.

Yes, a simple VDN with a vector that will route the call to the TAC of that trunk group will work fine. You may have a different choice of cards that you can put in the Cisco but, if you’re like me it’s up and running already so, I’m stuck with that. Good Luck!!!
