To skip the long story, jump to the last paragraph:
So I've got a Cisco 2821 router connected to the world and doing NAT for us. On our private network we have a Polycom VSX 7000e. My predecessor had things setup so that the Polycom unit could communicate with similar units across our private network (it's a geographically large network). Unsurprisingly, I'd like to allow the units to be accessible by, and able to access, the world.
To achieve this goal, I've mapped TCP port 3230-3231 and UDP ports 3230-3235 from the external IP to the Polycom unit. This seems to work. (By mapping TCP port 3230 to port 23, I was able to telnet to the unit.) I've also configured the Polycom unit to use the fixed port range and made it aware of the outside IP address. Have I missed anything?
I've done a ping from the web interface to one of Polycom's test suites and it works!
So my question is what other tests can I do remotely? (I'm a two hour drive away.) The people on site are pretty clueless and busy with other things anyway. Or should I just assume it is going to work for the big event we have on Friday?
