My boss has seen a presentation about Cisco Airspace, but can't give me any more information it, and on searching the Cisco site I can't find any specific information on it. the only stuff I can find is about the aironet kit which I'm already familiar with. I'm guessing that airspace is a project name made up of various aspects of the wireless product range, can anyone shed any light on what components go into making up Airspace?

many thanks,

Try searching for Cisco Airespace

You'll find what you need. Basically it's a controller for Wireless AP's

Nortel re-sold the Airespace solution until Cisco paid too much for it. Uses dumb AP's and central "security switches" using LWAPP to manage. If you open one of the AP's there is a jumper that will return the AP's to Fat status :) Also has a survey mode jumper. It was known as the 2200 series for Nortel. I do not know what Cisco calls it now. Has their SWAN idea flown the coop? We have been fighting code with the Nortel flavor since install, and particularly with Cisco since they work the code now. If you are pure Cisco I assume you will get better service. Pretty expensive. Each security switch only hosts 36 AP's. I do not know if Cisco has up-ed the ante on that.

The Cisco 4404 WLC supports up to 100 APs. The APs that I've used are the Cisco 1240's. These are the LWAP flavor. I've never looked inside of one to see if it's just like the ones that Whiskeytrain mentioned about with a jumper that makes them thin APs or not. I believe Cisco has WLCs that support 6, 25, 50 and 100 AP controllers. They also have a blade for the 6500 and a module for a router like the 2811.

Hello,

We just finished upgrading our WLSE/IOS Cisco WLAN and I really like the improvements. We're now using the WCS to Manage all our Controllers and AP's across our entire Network. Something like reconfiguring my SSID's that took me a few hours in the past with the WLSE now takes 2 minutes. The WLSE Template approach was a good idea, but had a lot of bugs. I really like the Rogue Access and Heat Map improvements.

Rgds,

John
