We currently have a Cisco 871 wireless hooked up to a cable connection.

We are switching over to CavTel's fast ethernet service.

They provide you with an ip scheme that is similar to getting an internet T1.

Are we able to program this router to accept the WAN and LAN side? We would like to be able to assign different ips to different servers or vlans.

Thanks!!

Here is what they give us.

WAN SIDE
WAN IP: 76.161.xxx.xxx
GATEWAY: 76.161.xxx.xxx
SUBNET: 255.255.255.xxx

LAN SIDE
Routed Block: 76.161.xxx.xxx/xxx
Gateway: 76.161.xxx.xxx
HostMin: 76.161.xxx.xxx
HostMax: 76.161.xxx.xxx
Broadcast: 76.161.xxx.xxx
Subnet: 255.255.xxx.xxx

You can do all the NAT and routing you need with the 871. For inter-VLAN routing you'll need a layer 3 switch or just the enterprise IOS for the 871, I think it's about $100 from Cisco.

You may have to tinker with the flash contents to fit the IOS in there though, normally you'd order the enterprise version of the router and it comes with a slightly bigger flash.

We currently have our 871 setup to accept a single static ip. We are not great cisco programmers. Could you please provide some insight on how to get this programmed?

Thanks!

Our code is very long, and would prefer not to post (although all the ips are changing so not a huge deal if I had to.)

I think what weinmatt needs is to assign public IP addresses to his LAN from the same subnet as the one assigned to the WAN link, in which case something like bridging the router has to be done...is this right>
