download peformance

I have swapped out my ISP Router for my old 857w

Interestingly the ISP cheapo box gives me about 7 Mb download at weekends and upto 9Mb early morning work days.

However the best the Cisco can offer is 6Mb

What Tests can i run to see why this is ?

very handy document, would never have found that !

cheers , although it seems i'm going to have to buy something biggerererer and betterererererer.

Might take a look at an 877, a 2610XM or a 3640. With the 2610XM, you'll need to add a WIC-1ADSL card. There's at least one guru on this forum using that exact configuration.

With a bare 3640 you'll need to add a WIC-1ADSL and a netowrk module with an ethernet or fast ethernet port and a WIC interface (something like a NM-1FE1R2w). The 3640 might be a little more complex, but you'll get a huge bang for the buck. (eBay can be your friend)

Either of these will outperform an 877 for a lot less.

If you've got questions about these options or you have set-up questions, just come back and we'll help you work through them.

You still may be able to change the clock rate on the ATM interface and get faster than 6...

i have a 2600 router kicking about cant remember exact model
2611 not sure if it's an XM tho !

doubt it

shall have a look i have 3 or four adsl wic's although i thought they would only allow 2Mbps max begining to think it may be dependant on the router driving it.

I don't see why you couldn't install one of those WICs and then start tuning the router. Burt has a 2620XM with a WIC-1ADSL. I defer to him for the particulars of tuning.

------------------------------------

my 2620xm gave me very disapointing results only achiving 2900kbps download this is worse than the 857
I was lead to believe that the limitation was not the wic 1 card but this seems to be the limiting factor as i orginally thought.

any idea's anybody ?

what i can see is yours = Capacity Used: 96%
mine = Capacity Used: 58% = pants

thing is why is it not able to achive this the base ip image shouldn't affect the peformance should it? surly its just features only.

it interesting, it seems we have identical cards.

It looks like the WIC is not trained up to speed with the DSLAM...you mention you get faster speeds when it's not so busy---that tells me of course that CAR is not set on the ISP end to guarantee your max BW, depending on how far you are from the CO. You may have to try and turn the router on at a peak time to train it to the max BW that would be available to you, maybe like 3:30AM Tuesday morning...

Burt

how is it that my 857 sync's up above 2Mb where as the adsl wic never archives more that 2Mb which is basic bband not a
+ service. blow the dust back onto the old 2600 then as it seems to be pants now.
