is there anyway that an 857 can be reset of the no service password-recovery option by shorting a terminal or alike.

Denied rommon access when trying the ctrl alt break sequence

burtsbee i see you are the guru with this on 19" stuff but what about with SOHO ?

There is a tutorial on Cisco.com---it will reset everything to factory defaults. My self, I like to hot-swap NVRAM---NOT recommended (yet always worked for me). They are socketed on the 2600's...

I will find that tutorial...

PASSWORD RECOVERY IS DISABLED
Do you want to reset the router to factory default
configuration and proceed [y/n] ?

Answering 'yes' gives me a short readout and then the router asks:

Are you sure you want to continue [y/n]?

What happens when you answer "yes" to "Do you want to reset the router to factory default
configuration and proceed [y/n] ?"???

Is that dependant on an ios being on the unit, this unit doesn't have an ios on it

It has to in order for "no service password-recovery" to be enabled. It would boot into rommon without an IOS.

Are well it infact cycles through again and again as it has no ios, I think it was erased without knowing about the pw recovery being disabled

Post the output...

Alternatively, do you know the SNMP strings? Can you guess them? (They might just be public/private).

I use a tool called "config downloader" from the Solarwinds toolkit to copy the config using the SNMP string, change the unknown password, then replace the config back onto the device.
This is useful in the rare cases when you have no password access but you know the SNMP strings.
