Folks I have a Cisco 851W series router that I somehow trying to configure it, erased the IOS and can only boot to rommon. I am following Cisco's website on how to load a IOS image from TFTP server, however where can I find the Cisco IOS image or bin file?? I have the cisco SDM that comes with the router, but cannot find this image. Can I download this from Cisco's website for free? Or do I need to be some sort of paying member or a contact holder? What is a recommended course of action or is there something I am missing a more experienced Cisco user can recommend? I potentially have a buddy that has a similar model router 871w, would that help if he somehow backed up his bin image or IOS so I can use? Thanks for your time and help on this from a novice cisco user!

Hello
You have to have a special contract with Cisco to download their IOS.Your friend has a different IOS,so no chance of using his.Try googling the web.You may get lucky.

cbaur88,

Minue is right an IOS from a 871 IS NOT going to work in your 851. Now you know you should have backed the IOS up before you started to play with it :-(

Few things, a quick search with Google and seems you can get a 1 year Smartnet for that 851 for about $55, then you can get support as well as legal access to the IOS you need for the next year.

You also might contact who you got the 851 from, they may have the IOS backed up already!

Just some thoughts, Cisco routers are not for newbees :-(
