Greetings,
A Cisco 7970 reboots every few hours or so, and goes back to normal. It was read that a factory reset may fix it.
I had actually managed a Cisco Unity box two years ago. When doing a factory reset, what to keep in mind...can the very same phone be setup with the same number? Does it have to be created at the Cisco Management console for the phone? Thanks

Factory reset just wipes the phone. The phone pulls everything back down from scratch. No need to re-program anything. Very simple to do and a worthwhile try.

Thanks. Will the phone factory reset require a TFTP server to load itself back in? I do recall this being the case a few years ago - things might have changed - when the phone came backup.

The phone grabs TFTP info from the option 150.

Thank you. It sounds like it needs to be confirmed with whoever manages the Cisco Unity/Call Manager if TFTP is active, enabled. And does the TFTP server needs or does it even have the actual phone OS version?

Disabling TFTP would cause quite a few issues so I highly doubt it would be disabled. Yes, TFTP needs to have the firmware. Generally the PUB is the TFTP but it is starting to stray from that design but still a CM server. I have heard of people using a separate TFTP server but never actually seen it anywhere.
