I have a Cisco 6509 with CAT0s 6.3.2. I was thinking about updating the CATos to either a new version of 6.x.x or go to 7.x.x or 8.x.x. Has anyone done this? I did look to see what the major changes where but didnt find any as of yet. Also should I update the fireware or ROM or something. This is the only 6509 I have so I didnt want to mess it up, but I also wanted to get it up to date.

This system is my core. I have 7 trunks to other switches in my network.

Here is my show version info from the 6509.

Is there a reason you feel you need to upgrade ? Problem of some kind ? The only reason I can think of is recently there was a advisory about a vulnerability in catos . I would look up and see what version fixes this , believe it was like 6.4.10 in the 6.X train . Unless there is specific functionality that you need in the 7.x train I would stay within your current 6.x train . You will need to look at the release notes on CCO to see if there are any restrictions such as sufficient memory and the firmware is high enough , usually you do not need to mess with the firmware but there are exceptions specially on the SUP1A . If I remember right you can't go above 7.5.1 with 65 meg of memeory anyway so stay in the 6.x train .

Thanks for the info, I was just did an update for all my IOS routers and switches. I just dont know much about the CATos, with the updating and such. I will keep it in the 6.x train then.

Thanks
Ryan
