Hello there,

Need advice with configuring 4948 switches. I am not new to cisco stuff but haven't done in last couple of years so bit rusty.

I am trying to connect 2 cisco 4948 using SFP's. The Ethernet ports on the switches are marked from 1-48 and also the fibre ports are marked from 45-48.

As soon as i connect both the switches say on SFP port 45, my ethernet port 45 stops working. Any idea what wrong i am doing.

Also if you could tell me how do i manage the SFP(fibre port) & Ethernet ports as all i can see in the switch is GigabitEthernet ports 1-48.

I do not plan to use any Vlans so all ports are in default VLAN's.

Thank you everybody in advance for your time and help.

I think that is normal you can either use the ethernet port 45 or the sfp but not both . 45--48 is considered a single port and usually you have to select which interface you want to use on that port , usually it is a media command.
