I have a problem. I have a 4506 Catalyst Switch with four modules. Attached to two of the modules are HP printers. These printers have ip address defined to them. When I try to ping the printers I am not able to. I believed that maybe it was the port on the switch where the printers were attached. However, when I attached my laptop to the same port. I have no problem connecting to the network. So then I believed that maybe the printers were damaged. So I took the printers and attached them to a different 4506 Catalyst Switch which was located on a different floor. When I plugged the printers to that switch I was able to ping the printers. So I do not believe that the printers is damaged. Does anyone have any thoughts why the two printers are not working on the first 4506 Catalyst Switch?

Thank You

Make sure the default gateway is correct for the printers , should be pointed at the routed interface for that subnet .

The default gateway is correct on the printers.

Could also be a duplex/speed issue. What are nics for the printers set to ? Autosense ? Check the port speed as well as duplexing. If either is mismatch, that may very well be your problem.

What's the port status when you connect these printers to the "problem" 4506? I suspect when you connect the laptop it's set to receive a DHCP address, so I too would suspect either an addressing problem, or a speed/duplex problem as FWHater says. Did you try hardcoding the laptop with the printer's IP/SN/Gateway?
