Forum.

I dont have much experience with Cisco Switches.
So please bare with me.
I have a Cisco 4003 connected to a Cisco 12008 via Gig E.
Now I am trying to create seperate vlans in sub interfaces on the Cisco 12008

interface GigabitEthernet6/0.10
description **Management to Peering Switch**
encapsulation dot1Q 10
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.252
no ip redirects
no ip directed-broadcast
no ip proxy-arp
no ip mroute-cache
no cdp enable
!
interface GigabitEthernet6/0.22
description ** End User **
encapsulation dot1Q 22
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.252
no ip redirects
no ip directed-broadcast
no ip proxy-arp
no cdp enable

I have created the VLAN 22 in the switch and assigned the VLAN to a F/E port, and when I enable the port I see the port come up, but the VLAN changed to the TRUNK VLAN.
When I disable the port, the VLAN then shows up in the show port status.

What am I doing wrong ?

Maybe you can post the 4003 config , the 12008 looks pretty good to me . What do mean the vlan change to the trunk vlan ?

I called a college, and he set me straight.

I didnt have this in the Cat's config

set trunk 2/9 off dot1q 1-1005
(which connects directly to the Cisco 12008.
Once that was added the VLAN stayed on the FE Port, and we have connectivty.

Thanks for the support!

Rich
