Hi,

I´m totally new to cisco switch´s, know how to config VERY small things, and I would need some help.
A friend is trying to install a Cisco 3560g 48 ports PoE at his house, and asked me for some help.

Ok, here´s the main "picture".
He has the main network provider delivery by cable (RJ45) and in the end has a Netgear GS728TP, all is working ok. But now and due to his needs, he want to insert a Cisco 3560g in the middle, and connect both switches by fiber channel. (by the way, he already had this connection working between 2 netgear switches, but one of them was an FS and limited to 100M, so he ditched it, and still trying to find a gigabit netgear PoE at low price, but meanwhile, he had a couple of 3560g cisco laying around and asked me if I could help).
So, he´s plan is to make the 3560g the receiver (from net provider) and link it to the Netgear by fiber.
We tried by cable (RJ45) and is possible, without any config on the 3560g, just inserted the cable from net provider on 47 port, and uplinked to the Netgear on port 48. Worked. However, not the same story when we tried with an SFP and fiber on any of fiber ports (49/50/51/52). And yes, of course using a Cisco SFP, otherwise, he recognize as not compatible SFP and shuts the port down. Also, just to force it port up, had to config port speed as not negotiable. And after some blinking orange/green, the port keeps green, and sometimes blink again orange/green. Anyway, even so, netgear get´s no connection, and is unreachable.

So the help I´m asking you guys is if someone could provide me a config which would make this work.
Port 48 as network provider receiver, and port 52 as uplink (by SFP+fiber) to the netgear. No need for "fancy" config of vlan´s, port security, etc. Just default config, with these 2 ports config. The rest of ports can remain default.

Can anyone help or guidance to achive this?

Thank you very much, and sorry for some bad english.

Ok, problem solved.

2 issue found. On the 3560 the Sfp was an sx-mm and on the netgear was fet-10g, so was a normal problem, solved by getting a sx-mm also fitted on the netgear gs.
The other issue, was getting Orange led light. Solved by configuring it as "no switchport".

At least is working until he get another netgear as he want.

There was some config user/pass, sw description, ip, etc... Was easier to Just erase the config and make it all default. I know it's not security wise, but for now is not a big matter.

He might want to config for web browser access/management. I might have to ask you guys how to config that.

Thank you
