How do I disable error checking on a port so it would disable it every now and again? The port that was being shutdown was the link to the rest of the network. Problem is this 3560 is the first and only managed switch I have so I can't find whats wrong with the network until I get all managed switches. However I would love to be told I'm wrong on this one and would love any help I could get.

I have searched Cisco's site for "disable error detection 3560" and I haven't been able to find anything. Any suggestions on better search would be great also.

Thanks
John

I assume the port is going into Error Disabled state? There is usually a valid reason why it would error disable. I would suggest you look at the logs on the switch to see the reason for the error disable. My personal opinion is to leave Error Disable ports down and investigate the issue first although this can be difficult in some scenarios.
There are Error Disable Recovery timers and causes that can be configured so if a port does error disable it will come back online after a configured timer has expired:

cat-2950(config)#errdisable recovery ?
cause Enable error disable recovery for application
interval Error disable recovery timer value

You are correct I need to take care of the issue. Another think I'd like to try is to clear log files and bring back online.

I tried the errdisable recovery ? and it came back unrecognized command.

Any Suggestions?
