I'm doing a network upgrade and installing Cisco 2960x switches. I'm trying to use the 10GB SPF+ ports running over MulitMode fiber. I can't figure out why I can't get the SFP+ modules to link up. The distance is not more then 500' I know the fiber pairs work because the existing switches work over those same pairs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

What's the exact part number on the SFPs you are using?

it's a thrid party module SFP+ 10G from antaira

the specs on it say they are only rated up to 300m and you said you are no more than 500 so you are over the specs.
Make sure that the switch recognizes them and that the ports are not shutdown. Other than that you need to look on the sfp side and not the cisco switch. As I said you are probably over the supported specs and they signal is not strong enough.

I'm right around 500' feet not meters so I can't be over the specs.

Yeah, I realized that after I send the response but didn't get a chance to get back until now.
Does the switch recognize the SFPs? Did you check to make sure they are not shut down?
Do you get any connection lights when you connect the fiber cables?
Have you tried reversing one end?

You know,,,, it's always the simple things. I should have known better to reverse one end. The problem is that most fiber patch cables now a days come with a plastic piece around it so it stops you from reversing the ends unless you take that piece off. in the past I would always reverse the ends... go figure.

Thanks for pointing that out for me.

Appreciate it.
