Is there any way to recover the console port username and password without losing the existing config on my 2950 switch.
All I know is the hostname and Management IP of the switch.
The tech that set it up is long gone and of course no documentation was left behind.

Any help would be appreciated.

This procedure should not wipe out the orginal config .
It just give you a chance to bypass it and then reload it while you are in an enable mode.
You can always save or print the config should you want to be safe.

If you follow it step by step you won't lose it . Just make sure at the very end to set the config register back to a proper setting.

In a switch like this, the config is named config.old, so if you don't
switch#delete flash:config.old
then you won't lose it.

With routers, it's easier to lose it.
