Hi,

I feel I maybe asking the imposible here...I am using my 2900XL switchs to allow connection to network resources. I would like to limit the switch so that only certain MAC address can connect to certain ports. I already know how to do this via telnet, but (Here's the impossible bit) is there any way I can configure which mac address are bound to each port from an external program? e.g. SNMP. I have searched thousands of MIB's and can not find a way to do it. I have even located the right oid on the switch via an smmpwalk, but have been unsuccessful in changing it!

Please give me some hope!

This needs to work as I don't want to have to program them all manually (I have 34 switchs). The MAC address's will be changing regually.

Thanks,

Hi There

From my limited understanding what you need is a vtp server, as this handles vlan management & what MAC addresses can connect to what vlan. Then the software alters the port membership based on the mac address thats plugged into it. So simply it's mac addresses & vlans not mac addresses & ports.

Thats about all i remember from my ccna course.

I would look into dynamic VLANs like Trevski mentioned.

Basically, you assign MACs to VLANs and VLANs can then be restricted to certain ports. You'll need a VMPS server to handle the VLAN membership policy, and that will be a 5000 or higher series switch. It's alot of info to go into here.

Here's a link to help get things started.
