Is this series of switches able to do Inter-VLAN routing or do you need a router between the VLAN's?

Thanks

Either way you get a "router".. one is external and a "normal" router, one way is a daughterboard that has a router on it.. aka 7500 series RSM and then there are special chipsets like what is in the 6500 series where it's a router/switch combined. Where the router only routes and is somewhat slow, the combined switchrouter ( also can be done is 5000, 5500 and others I'm sure) would route the first packet and then switch anymore packets that belong to that datastream. I'm skimming over ALOT with this short version but you get the idea.

Cisco's website has some good info on the various switch families and instead of trusting my few brain cells, I recommend that you go there and take a look. I know there is a stackable that can route/switch but I dont recall the model number.. the 4000,5000, 5500, 6500 and so on use a additional card that plugs into a slot.

Hope this helps
