cisco 2610 problem 2

I'm configuring a 2610 router from console. I see that the interface se0/0 is down and the line protocol is down. I went into the interface and did a no shutdown but it didnt work. Can someone please help me how to get the interface up? also, whats it with the line protocol?

The interface will only come up it it is connected to something and the (CD signal is up). You may try the debug serial command.

line=physical connection
protocol=logical connection

If its connected to something then check the cable whether its good or not.
