How do you go about resetting a router to the factory defaults if you don't know the password or the IP address the the router is set to. Thanks.

Plug in your serial port w/ the rollover cable (blue cable) to the console port on your router.

You should be able to configure your router from there.
 
access the console interface of the router. enter Enable (Privlaged mode) type "clear start" this clears the startup config. reboot the router. it will ask you if you want to save your config. answer NO!

However if you dont know the Enable password, you will need to break into it use this link, and find your router..


Have fun..

If this is a live router i suggest not resetting the startup config. use the link above to recover the enable password.
