A few questions. Read all the questions first if you might answer because they are somewhat redundant.

1. can an unloaded (no modules) 2610 with aux, console and ethernet port be connected and used as a single router for a lan like you would use a linksys broadband router? If not what do I need?

2. Can I use a NM-4A/S 4 port serial module to connect a 2610 to a 2501 with the proper cables? If not what do I need.

3. Can the WIC-1DSU-T1 module port be used as anything else but a T1 connection? is there a way to use this port to connect to another router like a 2500? or to connect it to an outgoing broadband connection.

4 Basically what I'm looking to do is add a 2600 to a small network with a broadband connection. I use a Linksys router and a Cisco 2501 for educational purposes.

5. Should I be looking for a 2610? or another 2600. I will not be using it for a T1, only to learn the OS.

If you can, get a 2621 or equivilent. This router has 2 ethernet ports on it and you can then route between them. If you want to connect the 2 routers and pretend they are across a T1, then get 2 Wic1T cards a 2 cables, one dce and one dte and connect them, you can then pretty much simulate a wan. You can also get 2 wic1DSU Cards and make a rollover cable to fake a Wan connection between them.

Ahh, I didnt think of adding a 2nd Ethernet port. I just got a 2610 with a wic-t1 off Ebay for $195.. what a steal. Looks like the Ethernet module is called NM-1E and NM-4E. I'll have to buy one of those and maybe I'll be up and running. I may get a second wic for fun.

haxx77 how did you connect the 2501 to the router and how did you connect for network access?
