cisco 2600 flash memory problem

Hi,
some help/thoughts?

I've bough a pair of cisco 2600 routers to help with my CCNA studies,
I backed up my ios on routerA to my laptop via a tftp session. c2600-bin-mz.123-18.bin size 8,232,372 bytes

Came to load the ios back on to the machine,
tftp source and dest ect - erase flash = y

the load fails saying not enough space on device.

No files in System flash
[0 bytes used, 7864316 available, 7864316 total]
8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

my filesize i'm trying to load is 8,232,372 bytes
how can this be?
it seems my flash available is too small.

logon to routerB (with ios still in flash)

this has a total memory of 8388604 which is enough,
why is routerA only giving 7864316 available with a clean flash?
same routers,same ios builds, both routers are showing 8192k of processor board flash.

what have i done wrong
