Recently where I work we got a Cisco 1811. Previously we had a Cisco 1710. Have configured new 1811 similar to 1710 with Fa0 having outside/public IP (say 100.100.100.100) and Fa1 having internal/private IP (say 192.168.0.1). Can I have servers or workstations connected to switch ports (Fa2-Fa9) on same subnet as Fa1 (192.168.0.0/24)? If I try assigning an address to VLAN1 (192.168.0.2) I get an error saying it is in the same subenet as Fa1. I have connected laptop to one of the switch ports and it shows up/up for status/protocol in show ip int brief but I'm not getting any dhcp. DHCP is on server which is on switch connected to Fa1.

either use them as switch ports, IE you do not assign an IP address to the interface [your stations will have 192.168.0.0/24 IP addresses be it through DHCP or manual assignment] however your router interfaces(fa2-9) will just be switch-ports, with Vlan1(192.168.0.1/24) as the gateway (you dont need to assign a 192.168.0.1 IP to your fa1 interface.

OR you switch the subnet to a 255.255.255.252 and give each point an IP address with its own subnet....

We must go always forward, not backward
always up, not down and always twirling twirling towards infinity.

I would move your lan to fe2-9, and assign your inside configuration from fe1 to Vlan1 (which by default is all of the 8 switch ports).

Basically Fe0 and Fe1 are meant to be WAN ports, and the 8 port switch is for the LAN devices.
