Cisco 1750 Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have this Cisco 1750. I connect its serial port to a RAD ASM-31 modem. I gave the serial port an IP address, and its state is already up, protocol up. But, the problem is, I can't ping to the serial port, even from the cisco console. Why? I am pretty confused with this, because the serial port's state is up but I can't ping to it, even from it's console. Help me please.

when you say you can't ping from the concole, do you mean the workstation attached to the router? If that is the case, double check the IP, netmask, and gateway of the workstation. Make sure the workstation and router are on the same network.
