Hello,

I have a Cisco 1721 router. It’s in a basic setup with NATs the public IP addresses to the internal LAN. The basic configuration is working, but it seems that where ever I ping, the first three requests time out then it will start to receive replies, this isn’t down to the DNS resolving either, host names are resolved in a normal timely manner. This problem is also felt while web browsing and with most applications.

This seems an odd problem; I’ve tried searching the internet but seem to have found nothing :(

Does anyone know what would be causing this and/or how to resolve it?

Thanks

Bart

Hi,

I have a WIC-1ENET as the connection to the internet, and a WIC-4ESW for the connection to the LAN.

The console throws this error:

"CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on Ethernet5 (not full duplex), with Router FastEthernet1 (full duplex)."

Would this have something to do with it?

Thanks

Bart

Hello
The "mismatch" could be the problem.Try hard coding the devices, use the command "duplex half".I guess you are pluging the 1721 into a non-cisco.Cisco devices don't like the auto-negotiating with foreign appliances.
If the above doesn't solve the problem, then it may be an "arp" issue.
Regards
