Hi

Completely new to cisco routers but due to disaster recovery situation, a leased line connecting two offices for data has had it's B end moved. Unfortunately router for the B end is dead and BT have supplied a new one but won't or can't configure it despite them doing so originally 3 years back.

So can I simply copy the config from the A end 1721, change ip addresses and hostname and then copy the new config file to the new B end 1721?

Unfortunately also at the A end a new Sonicwall (for internet/mail) has been installed with the same ip (192.168.2.254) as the A end 1721. Simply changing the ip on the A end cisco (maybe to 192.168.3.254) and correspondingly on the B end cisco should not conflict?

Thank you in advance.

If you're using hyperterminal, you can capture the "show run" to a text file modify the text file and then copy that into the replacement "B" router. You can do this in a cmd window through regular telnet as well if you have "quick edit" enabled. Right-click on title bar, go to properties, and enable quick edit and instert check boxes.

Anyway, basically, the answer to your question is yes, you should be able to do this, though keep in mind the ethernet inferface will also need to be changed to match the IP numbering on the B side local network. Since it's probably the default gateway for that network, you'll want to make sure this ethernet IP matches whatever that is.

Thanks chipk. I'd already copied the text file and made the changes for the B end network but not loaded to the new router yet as I wanted to be sure first. Thanks very much for your help.
