Hello I hope you can help me,

I am trying to build an 1603 Cisco Router by instaling a newer version of an IOS and erasing the older version but the PCMCIA Flash card is set to Read Only. How can you change this to Read / Write so I can overwrite the Flash card. By the way there are no physical switches on the PCMCIA flash card changing from Read only to Read Write.

regards

Not all flash cards are writeable. Three ways to confirm that your card is read-only.
1. If you do a sh version, it should say FLASH read-only.
2. No write-protect tab.
3. Usually there is a cisco sticker on the flash indicating the IOS code sold with the card.

You only option would be to go purchase a write flash card.
