Any input on the following much appreciated:

Our business will shortly be implementing a Citrix terminal server solution (25 remote users connecting to Terminal servers at hq via a VPN and 15 internal users) to access finance apps (primarily). In addition to providing access to a number of specialist apps I want all remote users to have easy access to Exchange / Outlook (aswell as internal users). What are my options... I was wondering whether I would be able to give users access to outlook through the Nfuse Program Neighbourhood. If I did this would our whole Exchange server have to be moved onto TS - or is there a way I can simply create a link from within the PN to activate the outlook client in the normal fashion.

I would be hesitant to move the whole Exchange db onto TS as internal network users may dislike not having their usual client server access replaced by TS access.

Any suggestions.

Thanks
Marcus

Just install Outlook on the Citrix server(s) and publish the application through the CMC. It will appear in both in NFuse and as an application set in Program Neighborhood. Then you can access email with Outlook either as a published app on the Citrix server, or as a full client on a desktop.

On your firewall, you'd still just open the regular mail ports (25, 110) to the Exchange server, and the ica port (1494) to the Citrix server for remote access. If you don't want to open tcp-1494 to the Citrix server, you can proxy it to 443 via Citrix Secure Gateway.

hope this helps,

Thank you gbiello for your reply, includiong port settings.

Just to confirm:

If I install and publish Outlook (not the Exchange db itself)on the Citrix server I will be able to allow users to access their Email accounts via TS, or I could just give them desktop access as normal... is that right?

Thansk agin for your help.

Marcus

mparry;

You're exactly right - you simply install the Outlook client on the Citrix server and point the user profiles at your exchange server.

This will work equally well as a published application or as an app launched from the desktop. I tend to publish everything, including a blank desktop, so that users only ever get the apps that I want them to have.

Have a look at thread48-391494 for a way to further simplify Outlook profile rollouts - otherwise you'll need to set up each user's profile individually (or get the users to do it).

Hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

Don't forget that for Outlook 2000 and above, you will need to use a Transforms file which you can get from the Office Resource Kit
