I'm running an HP Pavilion with 466mHz Celeron and 200 megRAM - so that 100% CPU usage was pretty shocking, when only opening windows explorer.

Anyway, I've been thru the wringer, and microsoft says that HP's version of Win98SE is defective. I loaded straight win98 and everything runs really well except that I cannot recognize the onboard sound chip (HP says its a Cirrus) and the downloaded Cirrus drivers aren't recognized. HP tech suggests I install another sound card for my speech-to-text.
Was never able to use speech recognition on the original Pavilion setup anyway, but would like any suggestions for recognizing that PCI chip. Downloads from Cirrus didn't work with their "setup" and pointing to the driver on the HP disk wasn't recognized either.

suggestions?

-mcy
