Circular Refernece issues?

I have several forms and subforms all related to one form and one identification number. When I relate the appropriate fields in forms and subforms to the main form, the cursor and computer goes wild. it appears the program is continually writting back to the original form. I think it is some sort of circular refernce, but I am not sure. Does anyone one have any ideas?

not very confident from the brief post, but I would look at the various events in the forms. specifically, the &quot;on current&quot;, &quot;got focus&quot;, &quot;lost focus&quot;. start with the controls which display the 'control value' (Identification number).

an alternative might be to not just set an active control (text box, combo box ...) to have the record source, but to place this value in a caption control which is set in a form event (on currrent?)

Thanks for your tip. I tried playing around with the event options and have discovered a couple more things that might give some insight to my problem. I changed one of the settings (I can't remember which one) from 0 to 60. Now when I go from design view to form view, I notice down in the left corner where it normally says &quot;design View&quot; it says &quot;Calculatting . . . &quot; then every few seconds the cursor indicates the computer is busy doing something. This is the circular reference I was refering to in my original post. In reality it is probably not a circular reference, but rather the program is continually rewriting the information to given fields. I just don't know how to correct this.

I am relatively new to Access and have spent a significant amount of time mudling through help menus text and other people's ideas. I appreciate your help and please forgive any misunderstood ar incorrectly used Access jargon. Thanks for your help.
