Cindy Brady Syndrome

Does anyone remember the episode of "The Brady Bunch" where Cindy the youngest girl had to appear on a quiz show? She walked around all week long with her nose in the air acting like a little know-it-all.
To make a long story short, when she finally got to the show as soon as the ON-AIR light went on she froze and couldn't answer a solitary question.

Well that’s what happened to me yesterday on a phone interview. I couldn't get out not one correct answer to any of the questions (just to let you know, these was questions that I knew the answers to) .

To give an example; he asked me what is a STATIC VARIABLE??

For all you non-programmers a STATIC VARIABLE is a local variable that retains it's value when you exit the function that holds it.

I couldn't answer. I was completely lost for words and it just went down hill from there. My recruiter told me don't worry about it, but it still bothered me. He also told me this was my first interview in 8 yrs so he really think I need some time to get back into the swing of things.

He is going to let me know later how I did, but I'm sure I didn't do well. So back to the old drawing board.

Nightmare ! Cannot stand interviews - but I'm sure you will get better as you have more experience of them.

PS,

I thought a static variable was one in which there is only one instance of it per process/execution instance, but its value may change over the course of execution. A constant/final static variable is one in which the instance is static (ie one) and also the value is constant ?

You're right a static var can change. What I wrote in my first post or what you just wrote would be two acceptable answers. My point is I couldn't explain that I went blank LOL.

Well practice is the best antidote to freezing up ina na interview. Get your friends to help you out by phone interviewing you.

Wouldn't worry about it too much. I had one just the same, what made it worse was that they were quite openly impressed with my work on the test I'd had to do before the interview, and were blatantly giving me every opportunity to recover myself in the interview, I just couldn't. Never had it happen before of since though, I'd just take it that some things aren't meant to be and move on.
