My harddisk is infected by CIH Virus on 26th of April. I had 2 Partition C and D and my operating system was win98. When I started the PC an error comes "Missing Operating System". When i checked from dos my partitions were lost, and all my data had gone. I repartioned my hardisk and made only 1 partition now. Can anyone tell if there is any possibility of my previous data recovery.

If you can hook your hard disk into another system as a slave, programs such as R Studio can get a great deal of data back.
However, in order to maximise the chance of data retrieval, you must write as little data to the drive as possible, as any write to the disk could overwrite data.

Steve Gibson ( has a free CIH removal utility available from his website.

I had a related problem lately. The answer is GetDataBack. I had never heared of it until someone near holy in computerworld pointed it out, and I must admit: it made me recover all of my 80GB HD, even after I had repartitioned it a few times.

Do put a decent virusscanner on your new system before doing this, because the recovery might - I don't know so take no risks - recover the virus as well.

Peace,
