CIDR IP Manipulation

My senior design group is doing a Web-Based IP Management project that will do asset tracking for IP addresses. We want to use PostgreSQL to manipulate the IP addresses using the CIDR operators and functions but are unsure of how to go about doing this. We looked on the PostgreSQL web-site but didn't give us any example code. Could somebody please help push us in the right direction? Thank you in advance.

A google for CIDR operators turned this up... it's for an old version of PostgreSQL, but looks simple enough that I doubt it's changed.

I think there is quite enough info about how to use the types

but if you have some more specific questions just ask
