My computer has been invaded by this trojan. Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution to this please?

First off , what antivirus are you running? What operating system?

There is a point in wisdom and knowledge that when you reach it, you exceed what is considered possible - Jason Schoon

Sorry - I realised just after I switched off I hadn't put this info in my post and I've only just switched it back on.

Packard Bell Aloha running XP with SP2 and every update/patch since. AVG 7.5 antivirus, Spybot and Ad-aware - all updated regularly.

Ok, if you dont have avg anti spyware, download it from the link below.

(make sure it says avg anti spyware before you download)

Also, download ccleaner from the link below.

Next download hijackthis from the link below.

Ok first off, install and open ccleaner. Choose run cleaner and hit ok on any warnings. Let it run till it finishes. Once done with that, install and open avg anti spyware. Click scanner, then settings, set default action for detected malware to delete. Run a complete scan with it and delete anything it finds.

Now open hijackthis, choose do a system scan and save a logfile and post the logfile on here. Do not attempt to fix anything on it unless you know what your doing as not everything it shows is bad.

Thanks for your response. I'm already running AVG7.5 as my default a/virus. I'll give the rest a go over the weekend and come back to you afterwards.

That one I posted is not avg anti virus, it is anti spyware.

Thanks for your help ElectronicsFreak. ccleaner found and deleted upwards of 300Mb of rubbish. AVG A/S found Adware.WindowEnhancer, Hijacker.StartPage.asp and Tracking Cookie Intelli-direct all of which I have deleted.

Log looks clean, hows the computer acting? What was the result from the housecall scan?

There is a point in wisdom and knowledge that when you reach it, you exceed what is considered possible - Jason Schoon

Thanks, I'll delete 03 - Toolbar etc later on today/tomorrow when I'm next at home. My PC is working well now thank you. All scans are now showing no malware, viruses, trojans, etc. Please explain "housecall scan".

Graham.

Housecall is an online virus/spyware scanner. Its good for checking behind programs and no program catches everything. So I use it every now and then to check behind things.

Also sounds as if you are clean now. My advice would be now to disable and enable system restore. This will delete the old area that is filled with spyware and stuff and make a fresh backup. To do this, right click on my computer, left click properties. Click the system restore tab, disable it(turn it off), then reenable(turn it on) it and hit apply and ok.

Done. My PC is now as clean as a whistle and running like a dream. Thank you for your help Electronicsfreak.

Have a star for your patience, EF.

Welcome aboard Graham!

For your information: there is a little link on the bottom of each post. One says "Thank electronicsfreak for this valuable post!".
With it, we can mark a post as helpful (assigning it a pink star), which is what I just did.
This is not simply for the sake of votes for Tipmaster, rather a flag for other users that there is a solution in this post.
;-)

Cheers,
MiS

Thanks for explaining how things work on this forum MakeItSo. I hadn't seen the link (eyes are not as good as they used to be. :D

Thanks makeitso, appreciate the star! As for patience, not a problem lol. I love helping people.

Also grahamBennett, feel free to use this site in the future again should you run into any problem as there are forums on here for pretty much anything.

I definitley second this. Been around since 2003 and have learnt a huge deal since then.
:)

The CiD popups come from LOP. These two lines are LOP:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [roam slow curb balm] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bait cake roam slow\Style debug.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LOGO COAL] C:\DOCUME~1\Graham\APPLIC~1\UPBODY~1\FIRST STYLE.exe

In addition to fixing the HJT log, you should also delete some files:

Look in these two folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
C:\DOCUME~1\Graham\APPLIC~1\

For these folder names and delete them if present:
\Bait cake roam slow
\UPBODY~1 (This is an abbreviated name, the real name will begin with those 6 characters.)

Check for other odd made-up folder names, ask before you delete something if you have any questions.

Also check c:\programfiles for the \UPBODY~1 folder and delete it if present.

Sometimes LOP also installs a taskscheduler job.
Open hijackthis and click the misc tools button.
Then “generate a startuplist log”
Check the section “Enumerate Task Scheduler Jobs” for a job name that looks like a long random sequence of letters and numbers. If something like that is there, it is probably a LOP job that should be removed. If there is one there, post back and I’ll find you a link to a tool to remove it.
