I have a new client, who has a CICS with "S-4.1 S/W" software Release 02. He has 8 phones but now wants room for an additional one. He does not have a combo services cartridge. Is this all he needs? Or must he upgrade his software as well? Any advise would be appreaciated. Thank you.

to go from 8 to 16 you dont need any additional hardware

if by s-4.1 you meant standard 4.1 software, then you dont need anything but the phone

post the sp # to verify if you have standard or restricted software (to go from restr to standard, you need s/w upgrade)

Easy way to find out is to go into programming and in Maint. go to port/dn status. Press show, then list. Go down the list until you get to port 108, if it jumps to 117 after port 108, you need to upgrade your software.

Okay, this is great advise, so I should narrow this issue down more further. The CICS sp # is: 30NEG04 NAT .

He has ports 101 - 107 used and 110 for fax. But I get no power on ports 108, 109 to 118 I believe. To be honest although the BIX block is in an awkard position I'm sure its connected, in fact I tried a few of the ports mentioned and no power to the new jack installed.

Question, I was under the impression that a standard CICS only allows for 8 sets and 4 trunks with the standard Global line card?

Thanks again you two for your help.

You should be ok with what you have up to 16 phones.

Thanks Hawks, but i have to ask how did you come up with this solution?

for the SP i'm supposing it is 30NeG04 NAT instead of 30NEG04 NAT

that is Standard software, which means with the exisiting stuff you can use upto 16 extensions (cable pairs 1 thru 16)

Well, I haven't got any power off the pairs mentioned above, I'll check the punch downs again.

Just a question though, under the cover the CICS has written Load = 8. Does this mean only eight phones. How can you tell with the sp?

You say port 110 is for the fax, is it using the internal ATA, or is it connected to an external ATA?
The fax will not use a digital port, it must use an ATA.
I still think you have 4x8 software.
Check your ports again.
Gabriel

The system has a an external ATA connected to the 110 port. As for the ports viewed thorough Maint., I see them all, I belive it skips 119 to 120, but from 101 to 118 I see them all. If the software must be upgraded than, he'll need a combo services cartridge as well won't he?

Combo card is not required unless upgrading from 16 ports to 24 ports.
This is not supported using restricted software.
However you may purchase a keycode to convert restricted software to standard.

the SP codes for 4.1 ar Nh and Ni for restricted, Ne, Nf, Ng for standard software so it looks like standard 8X16 software is what you have.

With no battery you might have bad ports, or the cable pairs might not be there.

If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.
