Will swapping out the PCMIA cards to the newer release lose the programmed data? In not, then after having done the card upgrade, would it also work to then move the 4.1 card into a different CICS cabinet? Would it still retain the data.
Situation is a CICS w/1.0 that is seemingly losing ports and would like to upgrade the software then the hardware...I understand that if that can't be done then yes, we can re-enter the programming...but hey, who want's to if you don't have to? [pipe]

on the mics you need a upgrade cartridge or you lose it all and must rekey from scratch...loss of ports not a usual software issue...

But since you are talking about a CICS, it will upgrade just fine. BUT when you move the cartridge to a different KSU, the programming will not move with the cart.
Just do a backup of the programming of the 4.1 cart, then restore it to the new CICS.
(CICS 1.0 does not support backup and restore)
(Also, you can not go backwards from 4.1 to 1.0 without losing the programming)

Thank you both for the info. Looks like an upgrade, a backup, then a restore in the new CICS. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

MarvO, the report from field tech says 221, the IRAD and another station, DN unknown, had just quit working, not all at once though. There is a history of power issues in the building which they are working on, and adding an ONEAC for the CICS. The city police building is in the next building and they test their power fail generators every week which appears to affect their power and this has been going on for a while. I'd be curious to test the CICS myself on the bench.
