I understand I need to upgrade my software to use my CICS with a voicemail system.

I have...
CICS... NNTM040AL3G9, NT7B58AB-93 REL 01N, NA-CICS-DR 1.0 (NT7B56)
CARTRIDGE... NNTM040AKW53, NT5B41GB-93 REL 02B
CARTRIDGE... NNTM040ATTJT, NT5B41GA-93 REL 02B
CARD...NNTM040ASY0W, NT7B64AC REL 02, NA-CICS-DR 2.0 EXPANDED S/W WI 10.1
Under "system version" it says "SP: 30AGK01 NAT"

I'd be looking for used probably... so are there any releases to avoid or any particular benefits to going all the way to 7.1?

Once settled on a version, are there other characteristics of the software card I need to look out for? eg. does it impact the number of lines/extensions?

Thanks for the advice!

7.1 has the new DST schedule. Same number of lines & extensions.

Lines changed from 025-028 to 031-34

Caller ID on all phones that ring
DST
Huntgroups
Distintive Ring on lines
Features of T series sets

You can use 2 upgrade tools to get to 7.1 to keep programming but suggest to do a startup and reprogram system.

I always try to avoid any used equipment when I can. Sometimes the equipment was retired for a reason. I'd suggest going to 7.1.

Which vm are you trying to use? For 7.1sw, you'll need 2.0 if you're putting in a flash. If you're looking at a new vm, the Call Pilot is far more feature rich. Worth the money.

you are starting out from a CICS 2.0 expanded so moving up to 6.0 or 7.0, 7.1 will involve renumbering I would recommend a paper record of the current programming before you do anything. the trunk numbering plan changes at 6.0 where it universally reserves 30 lines for each T1 slot. (rather than 24 for North american earlier software.) beyond that the call Pilot is a nicer platform but it is a seat licensing setup (you pay for each additional mailbox after the inital 10)
