I need to forward an extension on my CICS system to an external number on a long-term basis. Once I program the call forwarding, do I have to keep the instrument (M7310) connected to the system? I would like to re-use the jack in that office and would prefer not to have an instrument connected in the phone closet. Thanks!

It's a Phone or Telephone or Set...not an instrument which is something that creates music.
Unless of course you use F86 a lot : )

If you want to forward a phone to an external number then post your System Software level, you need 4.1 and up to allow this.
You will need to leave the phone plugged in for the forward to work.

Not this will also tie up two line for the duration of the call.

You are better to use the Alternate Greeting in that mailbox with Leave Message = No and direct callers to call the temp phone number.
or
Setup Off Prem Notify in the mailbox to call their temp number so that they can retrieve a message.

Love this! Duly noted.

Thanks for the advice. I will check with "management" and see if offering the new number is acceptable. I am not a fan of tying up two lines, either. Problem is we are dealing with older patients...trying to reduce confusion.

I am on version 7.X software. If you need the exact release, can you remind me where to find this under programming?

Also, will a M7208 support forwarding if we decide we have to go that way?

Thanks!

They want to go with forwarding for now. The directions I have for redirection require that a line appear on the phone. All of our phones use intercom buttons and the line pool. Is there another way to forward to external besides F84?

All redirect in Capabilities
Then forward set F49number (where 9 grabs a line)
M7208 is ok to use.

I set redirect to Y in capabilities
When I hit F4, then 9, system replies invalid number.
Did I miss a setting somewhere?

I am all set now. I had to set up a route/destination. I saw a different thread where you said to use destination 7 and up. That worked and the forward is in place. Thanks so much for your help!

...Phone type doesn't matter

Great to know. Thank you very much for this info!

I *love* Tek-Tips!!!
