CICS feature cartridges, software keys & system IDs

I just inherited a CICS, and have been looking software/feature/license info without much success.

Can anyone point me to any good info that describes the relationship between system features, feature cartridges, software keys and system IDs?

This way I can get a handle on what I have, and what I need to do if I need to add any features.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Look in Maintenance > Version for the software version and report back.

Feature cartridge (software) - holds all the features.
The software is credit card sized and in the middle of the front, you need to remove the large cover.
On the card should say version or NT code if you cannot get the system version from programming.

Software keys - You need to purchase an Authorization code for the special features you want, your vendor then converts it into a key code.


System ID - This is what authorization codes get generated to, the system ID is in the cabinet/KSU and can change if you attempt a Startup procedure which wipes out all programming. Your vendor would have to assist to re-generate and key codes should your system ID change.

So where is the following stored in the Compact ICS?

Config
Software Keys
System ID

And is there any way to pull a copy of the software keys, on the off chance I lose everything and have to re-install them in the future?

My System is at 6.1 Standard +IRAD

Programming, software keys and system ID is stored on the CICS motherboard. No way to retrieve the software keys from the system that I know.

OK, so let me know if this is right...

Software cartridge: is just that, contains the software.

Config, System ID, Software Key: All stored on the mother board, are they held in flash, NVRAM?

Years ago I worked in Telco support and a Norstar guy told me that sometimes they had bad batteries and would lose their config if powercycled.

If this is a CICs there is no NVRAM cartridge,
Just the flash card
I have not heard of an issue of the system ID changing on startup on a CICs
I know if you DOWNGRADE a MICs the System ID will change every time.
I have not heard of any issues with the CICs, but that is probably because they usually don't have any key codes installed.
If they do there is not much to downgrade, unless you put in an older software card. or remove the TMC expansion card. and I don't recall doing either.
