OK, this is wierd.
I have a CICS installed in a large house. The owner has a electronic gate with a keypad. When the person at the gate pushes the pound key, it rings the phone and if the owner is on the phone in the house on another call, they can press the hookswitch, enter the open code (9) and the gate opens. Works great.
If the owner is on another call on speakerphone, as opposed to the handset, they cannot open the gate.
I thought the link button that I programmed for them to pick up call waiting calls would work the same way. But it does not. Actually neither phone can use the LINK button to do this. It appears that only the hookswitch allows them to be able to open the gate.
The LINK button works perfectly for picking up the call waiting calls.
The owner does not want to have to pick up the handset to be able to open the gate (no comment).
Does anyone have an idea on this issue? I thought maybe changing the link timer might help. But I don't know what it should be set at, or if I should change it at all.
What say you phone gurus?

Intresting one...

Are you trying to say that LINK button answers NORMAL calls but does not answer GATE calls when in Handsfree mode?

What software level?
Which mode of Handsfree in Capabilities?
When you press LINK do you see the the LINK symbol on the display pop up?

The link icon DOES appear when the link button is used.
The link feature works when used for Call Waiting calls but not gate calls on Handsfree.
CICS 7.1, I believe. Will verify that today.
I tried a couple of different handsfree modes, not sure which to use. I believe they are all in AUTO at this point. Will verify.
Do you think my Link timer is the issue? Do you know what it should be?

Not sure but since it works with handset lifted and link is pressed then I doubt its a timer.
It wont hurt to change the timer as a test, under hardware/card.

I gather the gate is getting a dedicated phone line from the street rather than wired up to the house and using a trunk port because of distance?

Is the gate using a CO line or an ATA? CICS does not link an DN only a CO line.

They are all T7316s, 6 of them. And one T7316e.
You know, I am not sure exactly how that gate works. I did not wire it. I know that pressing # on the gate just dials the house CO line, but there isn't really dial tone there. Is that possible? It's super late, brain is fried. I will be smarter in the morning. I will have to check that out. I don't remember seeing the gate wiring at the backboard. Have to look again.
"CICS does not link an DN only a CO line." I know that the gate is not on a DN or on the CICS at all, that is for sure because I did do the CICS system install.
