Hey there,
Question: who has set up the Fax switch option and actually have it work. Second: HOW? MRoberts

Enter the fax DN in system programming and the auto attendant needs to be turned on.The call must be answered for it to work.

I have never done it, but talked to Tech that has at 3 sites. Says it works for newer fax machines that send the cng tones right away, but the older fax machines that wait til recieving fax machine sends tone the call ring through to the phones and person answering has to transfer to that DN.

Good Luck!!

I can't seem to get this thing to work. I have the fax switch to on and the Fax DN set to the ATA of the fax machine. The fax machine is set to auto answer and when I transfer a call to the Fax DN, it gives me fax tone.

I do have the AA turned on and it does answer my incoming calls but when I call into it, I 'hear' the AA picking up but it doesn't ever give me fax tone. ????? MRoberts

MR,
Have set it up in the following manner:
AA on;
fax DN 37 IATA;
included in AA anounce is instruction to send a fax press
(digit on CCR or dial DN 37)
which sends caller (who is using non auto sending
fax machine) to DN37 - which rings fax machine on DN37 - which then answers with CNG tones and caller can press 'send'.

Executone's point about the auto CNG tones is valid. But then you lose the value of the fax switch and single/combined access number.

ARRRRRGH! :)
Well, what about my fax machine that I dial all of the digits then hit send and it grabs a line and dials..... There isn't a way to dial more digits after the far end answers!
Yick! MRoberts

MR,
After the auto dial sequence try pressing the send button as if the far end answered. None of the technology seems to give too much trouble except where some old timer hangs on the line to wait for an operator intercept - just to announce they are sending a fax. Mid 80s mentality.
Which I am just realizing is almost 20 years ago.....
Arrrrrrrrrrr !

But the send button has already been pressed.

It's a bit like ENBLOC dialing. I dial all the numbers, then I hit send, the fax grabs the line and dials, the far end answers with the AA message.
My machine sits here and beeps until it hears answering tones, then my tones kick in and the fax goes.

But in this scenario, I'm sitting here beeping my butt off waiting for a handshake and the other side (AA/Fax switch) is doing the same thing. We're both waiting for the other side to initiate the handshake. MRoberts

MR,
Sorry. I've seen the beeps go through the CICS. In theory the beeps should be at the same tonal level as part of the CNG handshake and be passed through the CICS AA. These beeps certainly go through my computer running talkworks, and the Stick. Try putting the loss package at long PBX or Long CO to increase the CICS sensitivity.
Also consider that I am incorrect and hallucinating about seeing the beeps go through the CICS AA. But hey! With all dreams....

PhM,

I don't doubt ya, I just can't seem to get mine to talk with a couple different "beeper" faxes. <sigh>

I'll get back to playing with it tomorrow. MRoberts

I did that with a lot of my customer's applications and I didn't have a problem and like executone said you have to have the AA answer and you predefine the Fax DN .it should work,however one time I had a problem with built in ATA that I have the Fax hooked up to it and didn't work and I switched to External ATA and it works fine.You did not mention what S/w you working with.I did that with 4.1 and 5.0 not 6.0 yet.Maybe there is a problem with the s/w (I will not be surprised).The AA has to hear the fax tone first to work then it will transfer to the FAX DN.I suggest to try different system with different s/w and try external ATA instead of the IATA,there's no other programming required.

Good Luck.
