I just updated from P2 to P4 and, instead of wiping my hard drive, just resinstalled the operating system. Everything seemed fine. Have two drives - C and D(storage). Suddenly, my hard drive is chugging like mad. Did a Perfect Disk defrag. C drive great. D drive stalling, stalling, chugging... finally finished but skipped a lot of files. Wiped the drive. Tried again. Still a problem. Is it the drive or XP? Maybe I need to wipe it all and start again? The hard drive defrags fine in Diskeeper and Windows XP defrag. Help!! I can't work!!

It sounds like a Hard Drive problem...had that problem with a 10 GB Western Digital when the bearing in the motor was going also I could hear a loud whining coming from inside the hard drive...you may or may not hear this from your hard drive...I didn't hear it untill it was too late!

Hello BJDobson,
Did you install the software and drivers from the utility cd that came with your P4 mobo? Also when upgrading such as this it is wise to reformat and start from scratch.
