Good afternoon,

I wanted to gain some insight from some of the people who may have looked or implemented either or both of the following storage products:

NetApp FAS 2050 replicating to a FAS 2020
Hitachi AMS 2100 replicating to AMS 2100.

We are hoping to replace our older servers containing direct attached storage with one of the solutions above and maybe use some sort of VM software. I love the snapshot, replication and software plug-in from NetApp but was blown away with the performance of the Hitachi. With both vendors trying for the hard sell I would like a administrators view.

Cheers,

VMWare over NFS is very popular on NetApp storage nowadays, and in combination with deduplication, you can save a lot of storage ! And as xmsre already stated, with enough spindles you get good performance as well. And again, what do you understand by performance ? Response time or throughput ? What is you workload ?

Vmware on Netapp over NFS plus Flexcache is a nice combo.
