hi experts,

I'm configuring a new 2000 Server machine that will have a
Basic NTFS partition for SQL Server databases.

because this is a data partion.... which Allocation Unit Size would be best for performance?
- default (I think it is 4096)
- 512
- 1024

Thanks for your recommendations, comments.

The higher unit size should give you better performance (less seek from unit to unit). It also gives you more wasted space since the smallest file will still take up a full unit of space. That shouldn't be too much of a problem if this is for SQL as the databases are by no means small.

Start, Help. You'll be surprised what's there. A+/MCP/MCSE/MCDBA
